Baseball
Run Line
Similar to point spread odds in other sports. In this type of bet, a team has a point spread of 1.5 points (or 2.5 points, depending on how popular the team is), which means that they have to win by two or more runs to cover the point spread. Alternatively, the opposing team can lose by one point or win the game outright to cover the point spread. The odds on a Run Line bet are usually adjusted to equalize the action between the two teams.
Prop bets
Prop bets focus on specific events in a baseball game. These can include individual player performances, such as the number of hits a particular player has, the number of home runs a selected player will hit, the total number of strikeouts in a game, whether or not an intentional walk issued, and so on.
First Five Innings
This bet focuses only on the first five innings of a match. You can bet on which team will be leading after the first five innings or if the game will be tied at that point. It allows you to minimize the impact of the bullpen on the outcome and focus on the performance of the starting pitcher.
Inning Specific Betting
An innings specific bet allows you to place a wager on the outcome or events of a specific inning of a game. You can place a bet on which team will score first in a particular inning, the total number of runs scored in an inning, or even whether or not runs will be scored in a particular inning.
Grand Salami
Grand Salami betting involves placing a wager on the total runs scored of all baseball games played on a given day. It is also an Over/Under bet where you can predict whether the total runs scored of all the teams will be higher or lower than that number.
Pitcher Strikeouts
This bet focuses on the performance of starting pitchers and their ability to accumulate strikeouts. You can bet on the total number of strikeouts for a specific pitcher or for both pitchers.
Stolen Bases
The stolen base betting market centers around the number of stolen bases in a game or by a particular player. You can bet on whether a player will steal a base, the total number of stolen bases in a game, or even the first team to record a stolen base.
Total Hits+Runs+Errors
This type of bet involves placing a wager on the total number of hits, runs and errors accumulated by both teams in a game. The bookmaker will set a line and you can predict whether the total will be over or under that number.
Home Run Props
Home Run Prop allows you to bet on specific outcomes related to home runs in a game. You can bet on the total number of home runs hit by both teams, whether or not a specific player will hit a home run, or even the distance of the longest home run in the game.
Bet Wiser on Baseball
Baseball rules were overhauled not too long ago to speed up the game, make paths safer for runners and eliminate infield shifts, and the rules are still being revised.
- The soil between the foul line and the infield grass has been added to the runner’s lane
- Pitch clock allotment have been reduced from 20 seconds to 18 seconds when runners are on base
- Pitchers assigned to warm up must face at least one batter
- The number of mound visits has decreased from five to four
- When a pitcher is in control of the ball, the pitch clock will restart immediately after a dead ball
Injuries
When betting on baseball, it is important to keep an eye on injuries. Injuries are also one of the biggest factors that affect the odds of a game. Missing key lineup players as well as important relief pitchers or regular starting pitchers can directly affect the outcome of a game.
Weather
Most MLB games are played outdoors, and some of them may be played in bad weather conditions. One particularly important factor is the wind. If you are planning to bet on the totals, then you need to know what the weather will be like at the start of the game.
Know the Umpire
Every home plate umpire has his or her own tendencies when it comes to calling strikes and balls. It’s important to know who the umpire is, but it’s not recommended to place a bet based solely on the umpire.
The bigger the umpire’s strike zone, the more favorable the pitcher will be and the fewer balls the umpire will call. When the strike zone is looser, there are more strikeouts and more at-bats.
The smaller the umpire’s strike zone, the more fouls, more runs scored, and more strikeouts, leading to more walks.
Avoid Big Favorites
Recreational people in baseball betting like to bet on the favorites, so bookies adjust their odds accordingly. This means that the favorite will always be overvalued. No matter how low the odds are, there are still plenty of people who choose to bet on them. When the favorites win, your payout is minimal. But when they lose, you lose it all. In short, the money is more than worth it.
Know the Schedule
Scheduling over a thousand games in a season is not easy. Sometimes, leagues must reschedule games or games to fill canceled or postponed games. This means that some teams will be forced to play more games with less rest. Teams may not be able to play at 100% because of the schedule.
